Although much of it is outdated, we found functional equipment throughout. Basic x-ray and laboratory services are available, and there is a functional emergency room staffed 24-hours a day with physicians.

Dr. Alvarez is a very friendly physician and his English skills are good.
Dr. Alvarez attended medical school at the Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City, and completed his post-graduate training at Hamline University Hospital in Minnesota.
He has been in private practice as a cardiologist in San Miguel de Allende since 1992, and is a member of the Mexican Society of Cardiology. Dr. Alvarez is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Dr. Hoogesteger attended medical school and completed his residency at the
University of Amsterdam, Holland. After practicing eight years in community
health for the Dutch government, he traveled to Mexico City, where he studied at
Homeopatia de Mexico. He has been living and practicing in Mexico for over 20
years. Though he is an MD, he believes very strongly in homeopathic medicine,
which he practices as well as allopathic medicine. Unless other wise specified,
he will send his patients to the General Hospital.

Dr. Quiroz attended medical school at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He also completed his subspecialty in nephrology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Dr. Quiroz is a former professor from the Instituto Nacional de Nutricion S.Z., in Mexico City.
Dr. Quiroz is an excellent physician and should be considered the first choice by patients seeking medical assistance in San Miguel de Allende. If there is anything beyond his expertise, he will direct patients to the right physicians. Dr. Quiroz is, however, somewhat difficult to reach as he is considered "semi-retired."
